To celebrate Mother's Day, Mothers get to ride the train for free at the Oakland Zoo. A nice relaxing train ride through the countryside is a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. Fathers have fun too, they get to pay for Mothers. Families can have a great time seeing the nests our birds have set up, or the latest antics of the Macaws.

Instead of bringing Mom flowers, why not bring Mom out to the flowers this year? Past years have brought some pretty spectacular wildflower displays (and some pretty fantastic Moms!) to Russian Ridge Preserve on this celebratory Sunday in May. Celebrate your mom with docents Richard and Toni Gooch on this leisurely-paced, 3.5-mile walk to Borel Hill and back on the Ancient Oaks Trail.

Make this day a special one by taking mom on a family trip to your local National Wildlife Refuge in Alviso. Here you will have the opportunity to learn fun and interesting things
about wetlands and wildlife while taking a guided tour of the salt marshes of the San Francisco Bay. Visitors will hear from a presenter, see a slideshow, and walk through

- Mother’s Day Beginning Bird Watching(May 9, 2-3:30)

Come join us for a special Mother’s Day Beginning Bird Watching. This is a great way to spend time with family while learning about many local and migratory birds. Start with a slide show indoors to learn how to recognize the regulars. Then borrow binoculars and take a guided walk to try out your new skills. All ages welcome. Program is led by Ceal Craig. Celebrate Mother’s Day with a delicious brunch, live music, and champagne in the most gorgeous garden in Palo Alto. Treat your mother to a special day at the historic villa at Montalvo Arts Center. Hosted by the members of the Montalvo Service Group, the delicious buffet brunch is catered by Pat Smith's Extravaganza. Three seatings are available: 11:30 am outside in the Spanish Courtyard, 12 noon inside the Villa, and 1:00 pm outside on the scenic front veranda. adults: $50; Children 4-10 years: $25; Under 4 years: no charge. Captain Gerry will be pouring mimosas along with the Chef's special brunch as the Yacht Empress tours the Bay.
"Last year we had a full house and everyone raved about it," said Captain Gerry. "A few of the groups asked that we do it again, so we are." The brunch tour will leave the Sausalito
